Scene in Black is a cultural hub dedicated to telling Black narratives and celebrating Black creatives. Stink Studios was entrusted to reimagine the brands’ visual identity in a way to deeper reflect and represent Max’s (formerly HBO Max) ecosystem of talent, creatives, audiences, and fans at large.
The new visual identity is dynamic, textural, and contemporary– reflecting the current moment and future footsteps of Scene in Black. The end-to-end delivery included a new logo mark and complete design system along with a cohesive brand toolkit that details and scale activation for any and all brand needs.
The redesigned logo embodies the full range of voices and perspectives behind Scene in Black. The letterforms pay homage to the rich cultural history of film while staying rooted in the contemporary with refined details.
The toolkit brings together everything from strategy to tactical usage, introducing the entirety of the system in a unified way to provide guidance in application. Stink created a new logo mark, color palette, typography, gradient, and then brought the system to life with social templates and experiential mocks.
Instagram is the platforms’ primary voice and avenue of communication. Stink developed social templates– a sample Instagram grid and design guidelines– to maintain a distinctive and consistent look and feel.
The natural flexibility and dynamism of the system allowed for endless extension applications Scene in Black might activate including out-of-home, merch, experiential activations and brand partnerships.
